Why do we love heels so much? Why do we need this 4 inches? What happens when we put on a high heel? A woman wearing it looks different. And this is the reason men consider high heel as one of the most attractive symbols of femininity.
Well first of all, we become taller on the heels. Then, we square our shoulders to remain on the heels. It gives the figure an open and confident look. The correct last form makes a leg look longer visually. Our body always balances when we walk on the heels that brings to the hips sway. Men will never be able to do the same. The higher the heels are, the shorter our steps are, that is the more feminine.
To know more about how the heels affect our health let’s have a look at the following major information: it’s accepted to divide the heels into 2 categories.
1. Heel form: stiletto heel, wedge heel, platform shoes and so on.
2. Heel length: low heel is up to 2.4 inches, middle – from 2.4 to 3.3 inches, high heel is higher than 3.3 inches. You should know that the heel length is counted from the last founding under the toes but not from the ground.
There’s no “High heel disease” notion in the medical dictionaries by now yet, of course. But there’re already some cosmetic and surgical procedures that are called for adjusting or eliminating unpleasant consequences.
So, what’s wrong about them?
The weight of the woman is distributed evenly upon the foot while wearing the flat shoe. But when we put our feet onto the heels, we make the toes feel overloaded. Look, 0.3-1 inch heel load the toe up to 22% comparing with the norm. What to say about the 2.3-2.7 inch heel? It’s really hard to imaging the tender toe bones and joints managing with this task.
There’s no surprise that wearing heels on the regular basis leads to the following:
- Plantar callosity. It’s probably the most wide spread and the most inoffensive pay for the heels. Usually they are formed under the toes because of the workload in this area and disturb blood circulation. As a result the skin dries off, thickens and coarsens. Fortunately, plantar callosity can disappear soon after you change high-heeled shoes in favor of flats and use some feet care procedures.
- Constant shoes friction upon the feet fingers (with wrong blood circulation) causes nail plate weakening, slowdowns their growth. Uncomfortable shoes cause nails split and fungus.
- An expert can easily define the high-heels-devotee by the flattened toe bones as they are pressed into the footwear. It leads to the inflammation of this zone joints.
- Achilles tendon deformation. It appears when a woman wears the stilettos non-stop. When the Achilles tendon is raised up, it doesn’t feel the tension and becomes stiff, not elastic. It’s become very hard to wear flats with such deformations.
- Strobiloid swelling on the heel. Toughly framed shoes contact with the heel that causes irritation and inner heel area inflammation. These processes turn to chronic as time passes and alter the foot. It can be adjusted only by surgical treatment.
- Neyroma Morton – overgrowth and hypersensibility of the feet nerves owing to the tough footwear. A woman can suffer a pang when attempting to put on the pair of her favorite shoes.
- Metatarsalgiya often follows Neyroma Morton. Metatarsalgiya is a tension and pulling pain at the front area of the feet. Pain killers are used to ease the pain.
- All the abovementioned symptoms you can probably see or feel, but what if fracture or cracks of the feet bones happens?
- Osteoarthritis of the knees and pain in the small of the back directly related to the high footwear. Such kind of deformations could hardly be treated, that’s why it’s better to take the preventive measures.
But what should we do to avoid all this? We surely won’t stop wearing the heels even being under the risk, will we?
